Auction Terms of Sale and Bidders Advice

Terms are strictly CASH to the highest bidder. In the case of dispute the decision of the Auctioneer will be final.  The auction is conducted solely in £ Sterling.

Postal bids will be executed by the Auctioneer, on behalf of absent bidders, but, forwarding charges, insurance and registration etc will be charged to the buyer. Bids are also accepted by email and their receipt will be acknowledged by the Auction Manager. Bids from overseas members should be in Sterling and in each sale deadlines for postal bids and email bids will be clearly stated and must be adhered to. The Auctioneer can accept no liability in respect of bids received after the deadline date.

Successful bidders will be notified of their purchases by Pro-Forma or electronic invoice and lots will be forwarded upon receipt of the FULL remittance in STERLING funds.

All lots are sold as genuine (except where offered ‘as is’) but neither the Auctioneer or the Society can be held responsible for a wrong description by the vendor.

All lots are sold in STERLING FUNDS and must be paid for in STERLING FUNDS. There is NO buyers premium.

Valuations given in the auction catalogue are meant as a guide to those bidders unable to inspect the lots. In many cases, the vendor’s figures have been checked and adjusted. It is anticipated that most lots will sell at, or a little above, the estimate given. Condition has been taken into account and every effort made to give a clear description for the benefit of postal bidders. Such descriptions have, of necessity, to be reasonably brief. The Auction Manager is prepared to attempt to give a more detailed description of larger lots on receipt of a SAE. The numbers stated in general lots and accumulations have not all been checked and must be accepted as only approximate.

Unless otherwise stated, most lots carry a reserve price of around 65 to 75% of the catalogue estimate. Reserves do vary depending on the vendor and range from less than 40% to over 80%. Should the reserve be the same as the estimate, this will be clearly indicated. Similarly, lots being sold without reserve will also be clearly highlighted.

Applications for postal viewing will be dealt with in strict rotation. The cost, both ways, must be paid for by the viewer and all lots must be sent back by RETURN OF POST, with remittance to cover postage, registration etc. Unfortunately, no lots can be sent for viewing to overseas members nor can lots be sent out for postal viewing in the 2 weeks prior to the sale date. The Auction Manager is happy to provide bidders with scans as jpeg attachments by e mail up to one week prior to the sale date.

Our Auctioneer will treat your bids in confidence. Your limit bid will not be used as a starting bid.

All enquiries, viewing requests and bids should be sent to the Auction Manager.
